Title : je fais de toi la lumière des nations (Is 49, 1-26)
Format : 120 cm x 140 cm
Specifications : Technique mixte
Description :
Listen to me, distant islands! Pay attention, far-off peoples! I was still in my mother's womb when the Lord called me; I was still in my mother's womb when he named me.
He made my mouth like a sharp sword; he hid me in the shadow of his hand. He made me like a sharp arrow; he hid me in his quiver.
He said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”
And I said, “I have labored in vain, for nothing; I have spent my strength for nothing.” Yet my right remains with the Lord, my reward with my God.
Now the Lord speaks, he who formed me in my mother's womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him, to gather Israel to him. Yes, I am valuable in the eyes of the Lord; my God is my strength.
And he said, “It is too little that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and bring back the survivors of Israel: I will make you a light to the nations, so that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”
Thus says the Lord, the Redeemer and Holy One of Israel, to his servant, despised and rejected by the nations, a slave to the powerful: Kings will see and rise up, princes will bow down, because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen you.
Thus says the Lord: In the time of favor I have answered you, on the day of salvation I have helped you. I have formed you, I have established you, to be a covenant for the people, to raise up the land, to restore the devastated heritage.
and say to the prisoners, “Come out!” and to those in darkness, “Show yourselves!” Along the roads they will find pasture; on the bare heights their grazing ground will be.
They will neither hunger nor thirst; the scorching wind and the sun will no longer strike them. He, full of compassion, will guide them and lead them to living waters.
I will make a way through all my mountains, and my road will be raised up.
Here they are: they have come from afar, some from the north and the west, others from the southern lands.
Heavens, shout for joy! Earth, rejoice! Mountains, burst into shouts of joy! For the Lord comforts his people; he has compassion on his poor.
Jerusalem said, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.”
Can a woman forget her infant, no longer have affection for the son of her womb? Even if she forgot, I will not forget you.
For I have engraved you on the palms of my hands, I always have your walls before my eyes.
Your builders are rushing to you; your destroyers, your devastators, are moving away from you.
Look up around you and see: they are all gathering and coming to you. As surely as I live, says the Lord, they will all be like an ornament you wear, surrounding you like a bride's sash.
For your ruins, your rubble, your devastated land are now too small for your inhabitants, and those who devoured you will depart.
The sons you were deprived of will whisper in your ear once again: “The space is too small for me, make room for me, let me settle in.”
And you will say in your heart, “Who bore these children for me? I was childless, barren, banished, rejected, and who raised them? When I was alone, where were they?”
Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will raise my hand to the nations, and lift up my banner to the peoples. They shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
You will have kings as your guardians and princesses as your nurses. They will bow down before you with their faces to the ground and lick the dust from your feet. You will know that I am the Lord. Those who hope in me will not be put to shame.
Can the warrior's prize be taken back, can the captive of a tyrant escape?
Thus says the Lord: Yes, even the captive of the warrior will be taken back, the tyrant's prey will escape him. Your adversaries, I will be their adversary; your sons, I will save them.
To those who exploit you, I will make them eat their own flesh; they will drink their own blood like new wine, and every flesh shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Strength of Jacob.
